Dragons Offense Comes Alive in 10-6 Win

Dayton, Ohio- The Dayton Dragons snapped out of their team slump with 18 hits on Saturday night as they broke a six-game losing streak and defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 10-6 at Fifth Third Field. With the win, the Dragons pulled to within two games of the South Bend Silver Hawks in the wildcard race with eight games to play.

Kevyn Feiner hit a three-run home run and added a run-scoring triple, Cody Puckett connected on a two-run homer, and Alex Oliveras went 4 for 5 to lead the Dragons. Dayton had scored just 10 runs over the previous six games combined, losing all six.

Puckett and Tony Brown also added three hits for the Dragons. Feiner, Humberto Sosa, and Miguel Rojas each had two hits.

J.C. Sulbaran (4-5) was the starting and winning pitcher for the Dragons. He worked five and one-third innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs with one walk and a season-high nine strikeouts.

The Dragons wasted no time in getting the offense in gear. Oliveras doubled to lead off the first inning and scored on Puckett's single. Brown added a third hit before a batter was retired. Dayton added six hits and five runs in the second inning and went on to build a 9-2 lead

over the first five innings, collecting 13 hits by the end of the fifth.

Lansing scored four runs against Sulbaran and reliever Mark James in the sixth inning to pull to within three at 9-6, but Scott Gaffney came out of the Dayton bullpen to toss two scoreless innings and Donnie Joseph worked a perfect ninth to close out the Dayton win.

The Dragons had six hits with runners in scoring position in the game after going a combined 5 for 39 in those situations over the last four games.

The Dragons host Lansing again Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the third game of the series at Fifth Third Field. Ezequiel Infante (1-1, 2.81) will start for Dayton.
