
Bees Lose Series Opener to Snappers

Beloit, WI - The Burlington Bees lost to Beloit 5-2 to open the four-game series at Pohlman Field. The Bees allowed five runs in the first four innings before scoring their first runs of the night in the ninth inning. The game ended with the potential tying-run at the plate for the Bees.
Beloit took a 2-0 lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning. They added to the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. All three of those runs scored on Angel Morales' 13th homerun of the season.
The score remained 5-0 until the top of the ninth inning when the Bees scored the final two runs of the game. David Wood led the inning off with a double and then moved to third on a wild pitch. Jason Taylor then walked to put runners on at the corners. Shawn Griffin came to the plate and singled which scored Wood and moved Jason Taylor to third. Jose Bonilla then hit a sacrifice fly to score Taylor. Jason Morales walked, which brought the potential tying-run to the plate but the Bees could not get any more runs across.
Sam Runion got the start and took the loss to move to 4-11 on the season. In five innings, he allowed five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks. Riquy Pena pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit with four strikeouts and two walks.
The Bees were outhit 8-7. Patrick Norris, Adrian Ortiz and David Wood accounted for all but one of the Bees' hits as they each had two.
The Bees will continue the series with Beloit on Sunday with the two teams playing a double-header beginning at 2:00. Tim Melville will start the first game with Mike Lehmann scheduled to pitch the second. The game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees return home for the final home series of the regular season on Wednesday night.
