Dayton Dragons News Release

Grand Rapids, Mich.-Jordan Lennerton hit a home run and drove in three runs to lead the West Michigan Whitecaps to a series-opening 5-1 win over the Dayton Dragons on Saturday night. The loss was the fourth straight for Dayton.

The Dragons got the scoring started early when the second batter of the game, Andrew Means, lined a solo home run to left field to make it 1-0. It was Means' second homer of the season.

West Michigan took advantage of three Dragons errors in the second inning to score one run and tie the game. In the third, they loaded the bases with no one out against Dragons starting pitcher Curtis Partch and got a pair of sacrifice flies to jump ahead 3-1.

Meanwhile, West Michigan starter Casey Crosby was outstanding. He lasted five and two-thirds innings and did not allow a runner past first base after Means' home run.

Dayton got the first two runners on base in the seventh inning when Kevin Coddington reached on a dropped third strike and Mike Konstanty singled to left. But Jordan Wideman fouled out to third and the next two hitters, Miguel Rojas and Kevyn Feiner, both struck out to end the threat. The Dragons had just one base runner over the final two innings.

Lennerton hit a two-run home run off Dayton reliever Junior Martinez in the bottom of the eighth to close out the scoring.

Dayton finished with six hits. Wiley reached base three times with two singles and a walk.

Partch (4-7) lost his fourth straight decision. He went six innings, allowing six hits and three runs (one earned) with two walks and three strikeouts.

The Dragons (3-6, 31-47) play at West Michigan (6-3, 49-30) again on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. J.C. Sulbaran (2-1, 4.21) will start for the Dragons against Brandon Hamilton (3-3, 6.37).
