
Bees Record Just Three Hits in Loss to Wisconsin

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees opened a four-game series against Wisconsin with a 2-1 loss Saturday night at Community Field. In the loss, the Bees had just three hits and were 0-8 at the plate with runners on in scoring position.
Wisconsin took the lead in the top of the first inning scoring one run. The run scored on a passed ball. They took a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning scoring their final run of the days on a bases loaded walk.
The Bees scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the seventh inning. Eric Hosmer led off with a double and then scored when David Wood reached on an error with two outs. The Bees could not get any more runs across in the game.
Mike Montgomery got the start and took the loss to move to 1-2 this season. In 5.2 innings, he allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Eric Basurto pitched two shutout innings with two strikeouts and four walks. Barry Bowden pitched 1.1 no-hit innings with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Bees were outhit by just one, 4-3. Shawn Griffin had two of the Bees' three hits. The Bees went 0-8 with runners on in scoring position and the two teams combined to go 0-11.
