Dayton Dragons News Release
Dayton, Ohio - Burlington pitchers Jose Soriano and Austin Krzeminski combined on a one-hit shutout, losing a chance at a no-hitter in the bottom of the ninth inning, as the Bees defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-0 on Thursday night. The game was the opener to a three-game series at Fifth Third Field before a crowd of 8,196. The start of the game was delayed by 41 minutes due to rain.
The Dragons entered the bottom of the ninth inning without a base hit, but Miguel Hernandez led off the frame a line drive single to center field to end the no-hit bid. Soriano (3-2) worked the first six innings, featuring a fastball that reached 98 mph and a sharp curve. He notched nine strikeouts and issued three walks to earn the win. Krzeminski entered the game to start the seventh and retired the first six batters he faced before allowing the hit to Hernandez. He was credited with the save.
Dragons starting pitcher Jhon De Jesus recorded just one out in the first inning before leaving the game after a visit to the mound by the trainer. He allowed three runs on three hits (all doubles) with two walks. Reliever Andy Cox replaced De Jesus and worked out of further trouble in the first inning before tossing scoreless frames in the second and third. Matt Pidich replaced Cox and worked the middle three innings, striking out seven of the 13 batters he faced but allowing three runs, all on solo home runs. Eddy Demurias tossed the final three innings for Dayton, allowing one unearned run on two hits with five strikeouts.
