
Drabek Tosses 5.2 Shutout Innings In 5-1 Win Over Mets

Binghamton, NY- Kyle Drabek notched seven strikeouts over 5.2 shutout innings to become the Eastern League's second three-game winner, and Eric Thames went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeated the Binghamton Mets 5-1 at NYSEG Stadium on Saturday afternoon to remain atop the Eastern Division.
Drabek (3-1) yielded only two hits and three walks before departing with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
Reliever Adrian Martin fanned D.J. Wabick (1-for-4, 2B, RBI) to end the frame, preserving the Fisher Cats' 4-0 lead.
New Hampshire (10-6) scored in the top of the first inning for the third straight game.
Darin Mastroianni (1-for-3, 2 R, 2 BB, SB) led off with a single off starter and losing pitcher Brad Holt, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scooted to third on Callix Crabbe's single.
Thames lofted a sac fly to left, giving the Fisher Cats a 1-0 lead.
It remained that way until the top of the sixth when Thames roped a run-scoring single off Dylan Owen, plating Mastroianni, who had drawn a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and pulled off a double steal with Crabbe (2-for-4, 2 SB, R).
Crabbe scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Adam Calderone (1-for-4, RBI), and David Cooper (0-for-3, BB, R) scored on a throwing error, building the Fisher Cats' lead to 4-0.
Adam Loewen (2-for-4, RBI) gave New Hampshire a 5-0 lead with an eighth-inning single off Clint Everts, scoring Thames (single).
Binghamton (9-8) spoiled the shutout bid in the bottom of the ninth.
Vince Bongiovanni, in his Fisher Cats' debut, walked Zach Lutz and surrendered Wabick's RBI double.
The right-hander went two innings, allowing one hit, registering two strikeouts and walking two.
Holt (0-1), making his first start of the season, allowed one run on three hits in two innings.
The righty notched two strikeouts and walked one in the loss.
New Hampshire looks to make it three out of four against Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at 1:05pm with right-hander Randy Boone (1-1, 3.29) taking the mound against Mets right-hander Scott Shaw (2-0, 9.49) at NYSEG Stadium.
