
Down One, Vipers Rally in Extras

Down one run in the bottom of the tenth inning the Calgary Vipers rallied to defeat the Tucson Toros 3-2 in extra innings at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. The Vipers scored in the first inning and held onto a 1-0 lead until the eighth when the Toros tied the game and eventually went ahead 2-1 in the tenth only to have the Snakes walk-off with the victory. With the win Calgary has won seven straight games and improves to 17-6 on the second half and 40-26 overall. The Vipers are now five games up in first place in the Golden Baseball League's North Division.
Dusty Gober started the game for Calgary and was excellent throwing seven innings without giving up a run and walking only one. Making his Vipers debut Rob Naegele (1-0) recorded the victory by retiring one batter with a runner on third base in the tenth inning. Also out of the bullpen Jordan Muir posted a one-two-three frame.
Brent Metheny led the way for the Snakes at the plate by going two-for-three with two walks and one run scored.
Calgary took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when with two outs Brent Metheny laid down a bunt single, Julio Ramirez walked, and Kevin Price drove in Metheny with a run batted in base hit.
Tucson tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the eighth as Lino Garcia singled, stole second base, and with two outs Cristobal Santana delivered a RBI base hit.
The Toros took a 2-1 lead in the top of the tenth inning with two outs as Garcia walked and Francisco Plasencia doubled for a RBI.
In the bottom of the tenth the Vipers rallied as Jonny Kaplan walked, Jorge Mejia singled, Metheny also walked to load the bases, and Ramirez played hero with a two-run single for a 3-2 victory.
This five-game series concludes in Calgary at Foothills Stadium against the Tucson Toros on Friday August 13th at 7:05 PM MDT with Hawaiian Night at the ballpark.
The St. George RoadRunners will visit Calgary for a four game series on Saturday August 14th at 5:05 PM with Zoo at the Park Day, Sunday August 15th at 12:35 PM MDT for Team Photo Giveaway, and Monday August 16th and Tuesday August 17th with both games at 7:05 PM MDT.
