(CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas) - Chance Douglass tossed a complete-game shutout Monday night, leading the Hooks to a 3-0 victory over Tulsa. With the win, the Hooks (27-24, 68-52) are tied once again with Frisco for the lead in the Texas League South.
Douglass (7-6) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning before giving up back-to-back singles to Matt Miller and Alvin Colina. As it turned out, those two hits were the only ones Douglass gave up as he faced 29 batters in the game, just two over the minimum. Douglass had seven 1-2-3 innings, striking out five Drillers. He did not walk a batter and he hit one batter.
The complete-game shutout is the second this season for Douglass. The Amarillo native also blanked the Springfield Cardinals at Whataburger Field back on June 28th.
Brian Peterson gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead in the second with a solo home run to left field. The homer is Peterson's third with the Hooks. In the third inning, Douglass drew a walk and came around to score on a Hunter Pence ground out. Douglass in addition had a sacrifice bunt in the fifth inning, allowing Wade Robinson to advance to second. Later in the inning, Pence had a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Robinson from third.
Enmanuel Ulloa (6-5) suffered the loss for the Drillers, giving up three runs in five innings of work. The game was played in two hours and three minutes, the fastest nine inning Hooks' game this season.
Game two of the series is set for Tuesday night at 7:05. LHP Troy Patton (2-2, 4.64) will take the mound for the Hooks while the Drillers counter with RHP Marc Kaiser (8-9, 4.73). Tuesday night at Whataburger Field is Half-Price Group night, where groups of 20 or more get reserve seat tickets for half off.
