
Aaron Peel Named TL Player of the Week

Dr Pepper Ballpark, Frisco, TX - Arkansas Travelers OF Aaron Peel has been named the Texas League Player of the Week for the week of August 6 through August 13. The announcement came from the league president Tom Kayser today. In seven games, Peel collected a league-high 14 hits (14-for-32) with two home runs and seven RBI. Peel becomes the fifth Trav during the 2006 season to win one the Texas League's weekly awards (3B Matt Brown, RHP Jose Arredondo, SS Brandon Wood and OF Nathan Haynes).
Peel, 23, was drafted by the Angels in the 11th round of the 2002 draft from Seminole (TX) High School. He is quietly putting together a productive season batting .293 with 11 home runs and 57 RBI in 105 games. Peel ranks fifth in the Texas League with 35 doubles. During the second half, Aaron is batting .330-5-37 with 19 doubles.
The Travs lost 7-5 Sunday night at Frisco, but Peel homered and recorded three hits to extend a hitting streak to nine games. The Travs attempt to break a three-game losing streak Monday night at Frisco with RHP Nick Green (7-3, 4.80 ERA) the starting pitcher. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
