CORPUS CHRISTI - Chance Douglass tossed seven shutout innings for the Hooks in a 1-0 triumph over San Antonio Monday night before 6,024 at Whataburger Field.

The victory was Corpus Christi's (28-34) first shutout this season and snapped the Missions' winning streak at eight.

San Antonio (33-29) starter Stephen Faris and Douglass breezed through the first five frames, exchanging zeros until Faris ran into two-out trouble.

Drew Sutton opened the sixth with his Texas-League leading 19th double of the season, a liner down the left-field line. Richie Paz advanced Sutton on a grounder to second, and after a strikeout by Chris Johnson, Rob Cosby made it 1-0 Hooks by beating out an infield hit to short.

Faris (3-2) exited the game after allowing a run on five hits. The right-hander, 2-0 with a 2.73 ERA over his last five starts, struck out six without walking a batter in 95 pitches.

Douglass (4-3) did not allow a runner past second base, holding the Missions to six singles through seven innings. The Amarillo native walked two and fanned five while tossing 97 pitches, 64 for strikes.

Sammy Gervacio pitched a perfect eighth and Kyle Middleton took care of the ninth for his second save.

Johnson extended his hitting streak to five games with a 2-for-3 performance. The 23-year-old third baseman is batting .500 with two doubles, three homers and eight RBIs during that stretch.

San Antonio's Matt Buschmann (5-4) is slated to face lefty Brian Bogusevic (0-5) Tuesday night at 7:05.
