Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

Naturals right-hander Blake Wood has been named as Texas League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 8th, Texas League President Tom Kayser announced Monday morning. Springfield Cardinals outfielder Jon Jay was also given honors as Texas League Player of the Week.

Wood, the 22-year old from Suwanee, GA, started Wednesday night for the Naturals against the Arkansas Travelers and was brilliant, tossing a three-hitter for the first complete game in Naturals history and the first complete game of his professional career. Wood didn't allow a runner to advance past first base, struck out ten hitters and didn't walk anyone. He faced one batter over the minimum in his dominating effort.

Wood is rated as the Kansas City Royals' fourth-best prospect according to Baseball America. He is 1-0 with a 2.03 ERA in two Texas League starts after beginning the season with the Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Royals' Advanced-A Carolina League affiliate. Wood made ten starts for the Blue Rocks, posting a 3-2 record and a 2.67 ERA in 57 1/3 innings. Wood is scheduled to make his next Texas League start Monday night against the Tulsa Drillers.

The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are the Double-A Texas League affiliate of the Kansas City Royals and play at state-of-the-art Arvest Ballpark, located in Springdale. The Naturals have a toll-free ticket hotline (1-877-444-2637) for fans to purchase Naturals tickets.
