
Dotel Ties It in Ninth, Diaz Wins It in Tenth

HARLINGEN - With the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings trailing 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth, Welington Dotel hit a game-tying home run, and in the bottom of the tenth, Javis Diaz singled to score the winning run in a 9-8 win over the Amarillo Dillas Monday at Harlingen Field.
The WhiteWings (30-33) are now winners of 11 of their last 14 games after taking four out of five from the Dillas (37-28).
With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Luany Sanchez singled and Dotel hit his first home run since joining the WhiteWings to tie the game at 8-8.
Juan Cabrera, who was activated before the game, led off the bottom of the tenth with a single against Frank Corolla IV (1-5), moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Diaz's single to end the game.
Diaz got the WhiteWings off to a good start against Ryan Mitchell with his third home run of the season leading off the bottom of the first to make it 1-0.
The Dillas responded against Andres Rosales in the top of the second. Daryl Jones drew a one-out walk and moved to third on an Andrew Wong double. Brian Bueno followed with an RBI-single to make it 1-1.
The WhiteWings loaded the bases with nobody out thanks to three-straight walks in the bottom of the second. Domenic Di Ricco grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run, making it 2-1 WhiteWings.
Yeurys Tejda led off the third with his ninth home run of the season. One out later, Dotel tripled and Arlon Quiroz hit a ground-rule RBI-double to make it 4-1.
The Dillas loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the fifth. Alberto Cruz cleared the bases with a double, moved to third on the throw home and then scored on a wild throw to third. Stephen Douglas reached on an infield-single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Bueno to make it 6-4 Dillas.
Diaz hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth against Chris Ingoglia to tie the game at 6-6.
Jones gave the Dillas the lead back against Ruben De La Rosa with his ninth home run of the season in the top of the seventh at 7-6.
Adam de la Garza hit a two-out RBI-double in the top of the ninth against Mickey Cassidy (1-0) to complete the scoring.
The WhiteWings travel to Robstown for game one of a four game series against the Coastal Bend Thunder on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. at Richard M. Borchard Fairgrounds Field. Right-hander David Cross (4-5) is expected to pitch for the WhiteWings.
