Colts Make Changes in Preparation for Stretch Run

August 2, 2010 - United League Baseball (ULB)
San Angelo Colts News Release

On the first day of the final month of the regular season, the San Angelo Colts made several roster moves in preparation for the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

Before Sunday evening's game the Colts signed left-handed reliever Tyler Blum from Las Cruces of the Continental League.

Clum was with the Colts during spring training before being cut.

He was subsequently signed by the Vaqueros who saw their season end on Saturday after the Continental League folded.

The 6'5" 270-pound reliever is playing his first season of baseball since his junior year in high school.

The Iowa City, IA native lettered three times at the University of Iowa as a football player where he played on the offensive and defensive line and on special teams.

Rejoining the club, after a spell on the inactive list, is pitcher Alex Morales who went 0-1 in five starts with a 10.20 ERA before injuring a ribcage muscle July 11 against Rio Grande.

He will pitch out of the bullpen in his return.

Subsequently, the Colts released two pitchers today.

Starter Aaron Cunningham was let go after going 4-5 with a 5.71 ERA in 11 starts in his first season with the Colts.

He will be replaced in the rotation by southpaw Logan Williamson who is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA in six relief appearances with San Angelo.

Two years ago as a starter, Williamson went 12-4 with the Colts while compiling a 4.50 ERA.

Also released today was reliever Matt Chutchain who went 3-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances while garnering two saves.

The side-winding rookie was placed on the inactive list last week.

In an unrelated move, the Colts placed reliever Matt Carter on the inactive list.

Carter, a rookie, had gone 0-0 with a 10.80 ERA in six appearances since joining the team on July 13.

The Colts also released three players from their inactive list; 2B Aiden Villa, RHP Kenny Elkind, and LF Bradley Goldsmith.

Villa only appeared in one game with San Angelo back on May 28 where he went 0-5 with one RBI.

Elkind never pitched for the team this season after going 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA in eight starts in 2009.

An injury sidelined him for 2010.

Golsmith, a former Angelo State Ram, played in only three games this season going 2-12 with one RBI.

He was placed on the inactive list after tearing a hamstring muscle on June 28 against Edinburg.

This seasons was Goldsmith's second go-around with the Colts after he hit .302 with 10 RBI in 2009.

The Colts and Roadrunners finish their four-game series Monday with a 7:05 start.

Bryan Heaston (2-1, 6.46 ERA) will go for San Angelo against Mark DiBernardo (5-4, 4.68 ERA) of Edinburg.

Monday will also be Margarita Monday sponsored by MDX 106.1 FM as fans can purchase margaritas throughout the evening for only $2.

The broadcast of the game begins at 6:50 with the Kemps' Pregame Show and can be heard on 1260 KKSA.
