Dillas again blow save, again fall in extras to WhiteWings 9-8

HARLINGEN, TX - For the second straight night, the Amarillo Dillas went into the ninth inning with a lead against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. And for the second straight night the WhiteWings tied the game and won in extras as they defeated the Dillas 9-8 in ten innings on Monday afternoon at Harlingen Field.
Dillas reliever Frank Corolla (0-5) got the loss, allowing the game-winning run in the tenth. WhiteWings reliever Mickey Cassidy (1-0) got the win, allowing one run and three hits in pitching the final two innings.
The WhiteWings got on the board first in the first inning as Javis Diaz hit a solo homerun to leadoff on the second pitch from starter Ryan Mitchell for a Rio Grande Valley lead. Amarillo responded in the second as Daryl Jones walked, Andrew Wong hit a double and Brian Bueno singled to score for a 1-1 tie game.
Rio Grande Valley retook the lead in the second as Mitchell walked the bases loaded and Domenic Di Ricco hit an RBI fielder's choice to score Kevin Griffin for another one-run advantage. Yeruys Tejada hit a solo homerun in the third, Welington Dotel tripled and scored on a Arlon Quiroz ground-ruled double for a 4-1 WhiteWings lead.
Amarillo responded in the fifth as Joaquin Rodriguez led off with a walk, Rob Recuenco singled, while Julio Perez reached on an error to load the bases. Alberto Cruz stepped up and doubled in three runs, went to third on a the throw and scored on an error. Stephen Douglas followed with a singled, went to second on a Jones walk and went to third on a Wong fielder's choice. Douglas would score on a Bueno sacrifice fly for a 6-4 Dillas lead.
In the sixth, Di Ricco hit a two-out single for the WhiteWings and scored on Diaz's second homerun of the game to tie it up a 6-6. Jones hit a solo homerun on the first pitch he saw in the seventh to give the Dillas another lead at 7-6.
The Dillas added another run in the ninth as Wong singled, stole second and scored on an Adam De La Garza RBI ground-ruled double for a two-run lead. In the bottom of the ninth, Luany Sanchez singled and Dotel hit a two-run game-tying homerun to center
In the tenth, the WhiteWings Juan Cabrera singled, went to second on a Di Ricco sacrifice bunt and scored on a Diaz RBI single for a 9-8 walkoff win.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 37-28 while the WhiteWings improve to 30-33. Tuesday, Amarillo will travel to Edinburg to take on the Roadrunners for the opening game of a four-game set at 7:05pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.whitewingsbaseball.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
