Di Ricco Ties It in Ninth, Gonzalez Wins It in Eleventh

HARLINGEN - With the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings trailing 5-4 and down to their final strike in the bottom of the ninth, Domenic Di Ricco hit a game-tying single and, in the bottom of the 11th, Eric Gonzalez hit a double to the left-centerfield wall to score the winning run in a 6-5 win over the Amarillo Dillas Sunday at Harlingen Field.

Welington Dotel led off the bottom of the ninth with a single against Ramon Geronimo and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. One out later, Di Ricco hit a hopper down the first base line to tie the game at 5-5.

Arlon Quiroz reached on a fielder's choice with two outs in the bottom of the 11th against Chris Nyman (3-3) and Gonzalez hit an RBI-double after fouling off five 1-2 pitches to win the game.

That made a winner of Steve Raburn (2-1), who struck out two while allowing one hit in four scoreless innings.

Luis Montano struck out the side in the first, but the Dillas (37-27) loaded the bases with two outs and Daryl Jones hit a bases clearing double on a 1-2 pitch to make it 3-0.

Andrew Wong drew a leadoff walk in the top of the second and scored on a one-out double by Adam de la Garza to make it 4-0.

That was it against Montano, who struck out a season-high 11 in seven innings.

The WhiteWings (29-33) responded against Ralph Roberts in the bottom of the second. With one out, Arlon Quiroz reached on an error and Gonzlaez singled, moving Quiroz to third. A wild pitch scored Quiroz and moved Gonzalez to third. Roberto Rodriguez came up with a two-out RBI-single to make it 4-2.

The WhiteWings had runners at first and second with two outs in the bottom of the fourth when Rodriguez hit a fly ball to left field. De la Garza dropped the ball, allowing two runs to score to tie the game at 4-4.

Julio Martinez gave the Dillas the lead back at 5-4 in the top of the fifth with his second home run of the season.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play for the final time during the regular season Monday at 11:05 a.m. Gates open at 10:05 for the Big Splash as the WhiteWings turn Harlingen Field into a water park. Right-hander Andres Rosales (3-3) is expected to face right-hander Ryan Mitchell (5-2).
