Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. -- Thomas Dorminy was dynamite on the mound for the TinCaps but Fort Wayne's feeble offense didn't help out in a 2-0 loss to the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers) on Thursday night at Dow Diamond.
Dorminy (L, 4-5) became the first TinCaps (22-38, 58-72) pitcher to toss at least eight innings since James Needy went nine on August 29, 2012. The left-hander struck out eight and only yielded one walk and five hits.
However, the Loons (29-30, 57-72) wound up doing enough at the plate as Saige Jenco jolted a two-out RBI single in the fifth and Darien Tubbs scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. In both cases -- a single for Jenco and a double for Tubbs -- Great Lakes used a sacrifice bunt to move the runner up a base to set up a run.
Loons starter Victor Gonzalez went the first 4 2/3 innings. The only time Fort Wayne had multiple runners on base or a runner in scoring position came in the fifth. With runners at first and second and two outs, Dean Kremer (W, 2-0) came out of the pen and got out of the bind. He worked 2 1/3 no-hit innings, bridging to Shea Spitzbarth (S, 4), who tossed two perfect frames.
The TinCaps, who had four men reach all game with two singles and two walks, struck out 18 times -- a season high for a nine-inning game. This was the 16th time Fort Wayne was shut out this season -- a franchise record.
