Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - Two days after being named a Midwest League Post Season All-Star, Angel Perdomo returned to form, leading the Lansing Lugnuts (29-31, 65-65) to a 7-2 win over the Dayton Dragons (23-37, 44-86) on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field.
With the win, the Lugnuts avoided a four-game sweep and remained within a half-game of the Great Lakes Loons for the Eastern Division wild card with ten games remaining in the regular season.
Perdomo (Win, 4-7) had lasted only one inning in his last start, allowing four runs to the South Bend Cubs on August 20th. He was markedly better on this night, striking out seven Dragons in six innings while allowing only a pair of third-inning runs (one earned).
The Lugnuts victimized Dragons starter Austin Orewiler (Loss, 3-13) for leadoff doubles by Andrew Guillotte, John La Prise and Juan Kelly respectively in the first three innings, scattering solo tallies in the first, second, third and fifth innings.
Guillotte added an RBI triple in a three-run seventh against Jeremy Kivel, closing out the scoring.
Tom Robson pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Perdomo, departing after walking the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth. Andrew Case (Save, 8) struck out top prospect Nick Senzel looking to end the game.
Senzel, the second overall pick in the June draft, finished the night 0-for-5 with four strikeouts.
In the win, Connor Panas was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs; Jake Thomas went 1-for-3 with two runs scored; and Kelly finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI to extend his on-base streak to a team-high 26 straight games.
Lansing opens a four-game series at Lake County at 7:00 p.m. Friday, starting left-hander Ryan Borucki (9-4, 2.56) opposite Captains right-hander Triston McKenzie (1-1, 3.42).
The Lugnuts return home to Cooley Law School Stadium for a three-game series against Bowling Green from August 31-September 2. For more information or to purchase your tickets, call 517-485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
