Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Four errors and a five-run fourth buried the Quad Cities River Bandits in a 12-2 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels Thursday night at Perfect Game Field. Hector Roa had two of the Bandits five hits and scored in the ninth on Jake Rogers' double, his second RBI of the year. It was the sixth straight loss for Quad Cities, the longest losing streak of the season for the Bandits.
Three of the four River Bandits (27-33, 58-71) errors were made in the fourth inning, allowing five unearned runs to score to let the Kernels (36-24, 72-57) put the game away. The Kernels scored a pair of runs in the first on a Travis Blankenhorn two-run triple; the third straight hit with two outs in the inning.
Bandits starter Hector Perez (L, 2-1) surrendered seven runs, four earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out five. An RBI single by Brandon Lopez and groundout from Luis Arraez plated a pair for the Kernels in the second inning. Lachlan Wells (W, 6-3) tossed six scoreless innings for the Kernels to get the win, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out five.
Arraez and Christian Cavaness would each drive home a run in the sixth as the Kernels continued to tack on runs. Lopez's sacrifice fly in the seventh rounded out the scoring for Cedar Rapids before the Bandits finally got on the board. In the eighth, Kristian Trompiz walked, took third on a single by Arturo Michelena and scored on a wild pitch, ending a 24-inning scoring drought. Rogers double in the ninth gave the Bandits their second run.
The River Bandits return home to begin a seven-game, eight-day homestand - the final homestand of 2016 - Friday at 7:00 p.m. CT. The four-game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers gets started with a pint glass giveaway for the first 1,000 fans and post-game fireworks, presented by Smart Toyota of Quad Cities. The River Bandits send RHP Enrique Chavez (0-1, 6.75) to the mound against RHP Jordan Yamamoto (6-8, 4.15) for Wisconsin. The live broadcast will begin at 6:45 with Jake Levy and Lance Ragland on 1170 AM K-BOB, riverbandits.com and the TuneIn app; simulcast on MiLB.TV.
