EASTLAKE, OH-Friday night Lake County hit back-to- back 9th inning home runs to beat Lakewood in the 9th. Saturday afternoon, Jason Donald returned the favor in one swing.
Donald's grand slam off of Luis Perdomo with Lakewood trailing 4-1 in the ninth gave the BlueClaws a 5-4 lead and they held onto win by that score. The grand slam, on a 3-2 pitch, came 1 pitch after Donald thought he had drawn ball four and took a step towards first base.
Carl Henry Jr., Julian Williams, and Quintin Berry all came in on Donald's first home run of the season, and 2nd as a professional.
The BlueClaws played their 11th 1-run game (4-7) in their first 19 games of the season (10-9). Lake County (10-11) saw their 4 game win streak come to an end.
Alexander Concepcion (1-1) got the win in relief, and Perdomo (0-2) was saddled with the loss. Ronald Hill navigated the ninth for his 2nd save.
Lake County hit 2 home runs in the game to build a 4-1 lead, one by Nick Welglarz in the 8th and Matt Whitney hit a solo shot in the 4th off starter Jarrod Freeman. They also added 2 in the fifth. Freeman allowed 3 runs in 5 innings of work.
Henry was 1-3 with an RBI single and a run scored.
