GreenJackets Shut Out Drive, 3-0

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (19-4) recorded their Minor League Leading ninth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over the Greenville Drive (10-13) on Saturday night. Starter Dan Griffin recorded the win working five shutout innings and Ben Snyder pitched the final four innings for his first save of the year. Brian Bocock and Matt Weston each had an RBI in the win for Augusta.

Griffin (3-1) came up one short of tying his career high mark for strikeouts in a game, recording seven strikeouts in his five innings of work. Griffin allowed three hits and walked just one batter. Snyder recorded a career high 10 strikeouts in his four shutout innings, allowing just one hit and no walks.

Augusta plated the first two runs of the game in the third inning for a 2-0 lead. Mike McBryde led off the frame with a walk then moved first to third on Marcus Sanders base hit. Brian Bocock followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to center scoring McBryde for a 1-0 lead. Sanders then swiped two bags and on the steal of third, came home on the throwing error of the catcher Zak Farkes for a 2-0 lead.

The GreenJackets added another run in the sixth for a 3-0 lead when Matt Weston connected for a two-out RBI single scoring Bobby Felmy to cap off the scoring in the game.

Drive starter Dustin Richardson (1-3) took the loss allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits over 5.2 innings. The lefty also walked four and struck out five. Reliever Kyle Fernandes pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing only two hits and two walks.

The GreenJackets and Drive will wrap up their series on Sunday with the Drive looking to split the series. The GreenJackets will send right-hander Henry Sosa (1-0, 0.53) while Greenville will counter with right-hander Brian Stenocher (1-3, 8.20). First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m. The Drive's next home game will be Friday, May 4th against the first place Augusta GreenJackets. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
