Frederick Keys News Release
In front of the largest crowd at Harry Grove Stadium since 2006, C Adam Donachie launched two home runs in the Keys' 6-1 victory over the Winston-Salem Dash. The win ended Frederick's six-game losing streak and helped them avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dash. LHP Nick Haughian matched a season-high with seven innings pitched as he improved to 4-4 on the season.
The series finale did not get off to the start the Keys were hoping for. SS Tyler Saladino led the game off with a home run to left field. Saladino's sixth homer of the season was the fifth long ball hit by the Dash in the three-game series.
Trailing by a run, Adam Donachie gave the Keys' offense a big lift in the bottom of the second inning. Entering Saturday's game, Frederick had a total of two runs on eight hits in the previous two games. Donachie surpassed the Keys run total of the series with one swing of the bat. After fouling off four consecutive pitches, Donachie belted his first home run as a Frederick Key. The towering three-run blast put Frederick on top, 3-1. The Donachie homer was his first since August 10, 2010, when he was a member of the Norfolk Tides.
Frederick remained in front by two when Donachie came to the plate in the fourth inning. With one on and one out, Donachie drove another Ryan Buch pitch deep and gone to left field. Donachie became the first Key to hit two home runs in a game since Jacob Julius accomplished the feat on July 16, 2010. The multi-homer game was also Donachie's first since June 25, 2006, when he hit two home runs as a member of the High Desert Mavericks in the California League.
The four-run advantage was plenty for Nick Haughian. Haughian settled down after he surrendered the leadoff home run to Tyler Saladino. On the night, Haughian allowed one run on six hits while striking five and walking zero.
Sean Gleason closed out the game as he notched his Carolina League-leading 19th save of the season.
The Keys will welcome the Wilmington Blue Rocks to town on Sunday for the start of a three-game series. RHP Bobby Bundy (6-5, 3.28) will toe the rubber for Frederick while the Blue Rocks will turn to LHP Justin Marks (3-5, 4.91). First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium.
