Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN -- The Saltdogs (11-22) got more terrific starting pitching, squandered a late lead and then won in walk-off fashion for the second time in three nights as they topped the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (9-24) 4-3 to complete the series sweep in front of 2,753 fans at Haymarket Park Wednesday night.

With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th, Curt Smith singled to left with one out. After he stole second and Jeremy Hamilton was intentionally walked, Brian Joynt sliced the game winner to right center, scoring Smith.

Fargo-Moorhead got a two-out RBI from Drew Muren in the eighth to make it 3-2 and tied the game on a Chad Mozingo RBI double to right center with two out and two strikes in the ninth.

Conor Spink (3-3) pitched a perfect 10th inning to pick up the win. Ty Kelley (0-4) pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing a run on four hits to suffer the loss.

Smith smashed a two-run homer down the left field line in the fifth inning, his second of the year, to increase the Saltdogs' lead to 3-0.

Zach Varce pitched seven strong, allowing a run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks but took the no-decision.

The Saltdogs finished the home stand 3-3 and their starting pitchers finished with an ERA of 1.73.

Lincoln is off Thursday and opens a weekend series in Gary Friday night at 7:10 p.m. LHP Kevin McGovern (1-1, 3.63) is expected to face LHP Rene Solis (0-3, 4.04). Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
