St. Paul Saints News Release

FARGO, ND (June 25, 2015) - It took until game 33 of the season, but the St. Paul Saints finally found out what it was like to lose back-to-back games. For the 17th time in franchise history they lost a game 1-0 managing just two hits against the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks at Newman Outdoor Field on Thursday night.

The Saints were without their entire starting outfield, with two on the disabled list, Willie Argo and Alonzo Harris, and Mike Kvasnicka banged up. The offense had their chances drawing nine walks and leaving 13 men on base. In the first Steve Nikorak and Vinny DiFazio drew back-to-back one out walks, but Ian Gac and Angelo Songco flew out.

It took until the fifth for the Saints to record their first, and only hits, as Mitch Elliott and Nikorak recorded back-to-back two out singles. DiFazio, however, hit the ball on the button, but it hung up long enough for center fielder Drew Muren to track it down in left-center field.

The Saints loaded the bases in the sixth and had first and second and nobody out, but Joey Paciorek flew out and Robert Youngdahl grounded out. After a walk to Anthony Phillips loaded the bases Dan Kaczrowski grounded out to end the inning.

The Saints loaded the bases again in the seventh and had first and second with one out. Gac flew out to center and with two outs and the bases loaded Paciorek grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

In the ninth the Saints had the tying run at second with one out and DiFazio at the plate. He flew out to right as Nikorak tagged and went to third. Gac, however, flew out to right-center to end the game.

The lone run in the game came in the fifth off of Saints starter Robert Coe. With two outs Joe Bonfe singled to right and Joe Dunigan doubled him home. Coe went 6.2 innings allowing one run on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

The last time the Saints managed just two hits in a game was August 20, 2013 vs. Winnipeg. The Saints have now lost their last five 1-0 games.

The same two teams meet in game two of the four game series Friday night at 7:02 p.m. The Saints send RHP Dustin Crenshaw (5-1, 1.62). The RedHawks are TBA. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
