Chicago Dogs News Release
Rosemont, Ill. - A second consecutive shutout and their highest offensive output of the season propelled the Dogs to the first series win in franchise history as Chicago defeated the Sioux Falls Canaries 8-0 Wednesday night in the rubber match of a three-game set.
Playing as the Chicago Wieners for the first time in front of a Wiener Wednesday crowd at Impact Field, Chicago received eight shutout innings from starter Connor Root in his fourth start of the season. The Chicago staff extended their consecutive shutout innings streak to 24.
Treysen Vavra delivered the biggest hit of the game for Chicago. With the Wieners leading 3-0 and the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the fourth, Vavra socked a three-run double to extend to the Chicago lead to six.
Later in the game, Vavra clubbed a solo home run-his fifth of the year-for his fourth run driven in of the game. One night after his 18-game hitting streak was snapped, Vavra reached base three times on Wednesday.
Chicago would add one final tally in the home half of the eighth thanks to an RBI single from Edwin Arroyo. The Chicago shortstop also reached base three times in the game, as did first baseman Dalton Blaser, left fielder Zach Racusin, and catcher Mike Falsetti.
Root tallied seven strikeouts in his eight innings, allowing just four hits for his first win of the year. The start marked the first time all season that a Chicago starter had recorded an out beyond the sixth inning.
Chicago (4-14) has now won three of its last four games. The Dogs travel to Winnipeg, Man. Thursday for and begin a three-game series with the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday night.
