St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The history of women in baseball dates back 75-years when the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League was founded in 1943. Just 10-years later Saint Paul's own Toni Stone made history by becoming the first woman to join the Negro Leagues, making her the first woman ever to play professionally in a men's league. The St. Paul Saints, who have a long tradition honoring women in professional baseball dating back to the signing of Ila Borders in 1997, will host Women In Baseball, presented by Room and Board, and honor Stone.

On Sunday, June 10 the Saints will host their second annual pre-game girl's clinic as the Minnesota Girls Baseball Association, in partnership with Girl Scouts River Valleys, hosts a pre-game clinic from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at CHS Field. The cost of the clinic is $10 with all proceeds benefitting Girls Baseball in Minnesota and the Girl Scouts.

Prior to the 5:05 p.m. game the Saints will honor Stone for her incredible contribution to the game of baseball. Stone, who was born in Saint Paul on July 17, 1921, made history in 1953 when she was signed to play second base for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues, making her the first woman to play professionally in a men's league. From there she went on to play for the Kansas City Monarchs, the same team Jackie Robinson played for before signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers. The on-field ceremony will include Stone's niece, Maria Bartlow, along with other family, friends, and public officials.

The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a special Toni Stone bobblehead.

Saints tickets continue to be a tremendous value.
