Matzek settled in to fire four straight scoreless innings from the second through the fifth before Kansas City got to him in the sixth for two more runs. Newly-signed relief pitcher Julio Eusebio pitched a scoreless seventh before Kansas City got the bats going once again against Liu Yu, going off for four runs in the eighth to seal the win.

Barrett Astin (3-0) picked up the win for Kansas City, going six innings and limiting the AirHogs to just five hits. James Buckelew allowed one hit and no runs, earning his first save of the year by pitching the seventh through the ninth.
