Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD (July 22, 2007) - On Sunday afternoon, the Sioux Falls Canaries held their annual "Bark In The Park" promotion presented by Hidden Paradise Pet Resort. Part of the fun for the game, included a twist on the Buffalo Wild Wings "Chase the Chicken" promotion, with the Canaries poking fun at Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

The Buffalo Wild Wings "Chase the Chicken" promotion typically consists of a Canaries fan chasing a chicken mascot. If the fan tackles the chicken, a select section will win coupons to Buffalo Wild Wings. On Sunday, a twist in the promotion led to six dog owners and their dogs chasing after a chicken wearing a Michael Vick jersey. Earlier this week, the federal government indicted Vick on charges of allegedly operating an interstate dog fighting ring.

"Today's promotion was about celebrating and loving dogs," said Canaries promotions director Nate Welch. "In light of the recent allegations against Michael Vick, we wanted to let the dogs take out their frustration and show everyone how upset they were with the events surrounding the accusations."

The dogs caught "the Vick chicken" and won coupons for Canaries fans while extracting "revenge" on Vick in the process.

Dogs were allowed into the park for free with a paid adult ticket, and dog owners were given the opportunity to buy an optional "pooch pass" for the game. Proceeds from the "pooch passes" purchased were donated to the Sioux Falls Humane Society.

The Canaries are owned in-part by long-time baseball promotions guru, Mike Veeck. Veeck is famous for such baseball promotions as "Disco Demolition Night" at Comisky Park.
