Diablos sweep Coastal Bend in 10-5 victory

El Paso swept Coastal Bend in the series finale 10-5 from Cohen Stadium on Sunday night.

Coastal Bend crossed the dish in the opening frame. Brian Fryer crossed the plate when Albenis Machado made an error. Matt Spencer would also pick up an RBI in the inning to give El Paso a 2-0 lead.

The Diablos would build a 5-2 lead into the third inning. El Paso plated three in the first, assisted by two Aviators errors. Kory Drew had a run-scoring single in the second. Evan Conley picked up an RBI of his own in the third.

Coastal Bend pieced together a run in the fourth. Travis Tully blooped a single to left which scored Stephen Morales.

El Paso made it a 9-4 game in the bottom of the sixth. Kory Drew had another RBI single. Jorge Alvarez blasted a two-run homer, his sixth of the season to left field off of reliever Miguel Martinez. The Diablos scored their final run in the eighth. Jorge Alvarez smacked a single down the left field line which scored Machado for the 10-5 advantage.

Dallas Strankman and Julio Frietes combined for three and a third scoreless innings of relief.

Robbie Wachman (4-3) threw five and two thirds innings allowing three earned runs off of seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Pedro Flores (2-6) takes the loss, he lasted five and a third allowing five earned runs off of 12 hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The Diablos have won five straight games, their longest winning streak in the second half of the season. Coastal Bend has now lost 10 consecutive games. The Diablos are 14-4 against Coastal Bend this year.

The Diablos will open up a six-game road series against the Pensacola Pelicans. Michael Cervera will toss the first game for El Paso. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 1380 AM as well as at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
