Dogs Drop Game 1

May 16, 2024 - American Association (AA)
Chicago Dogs News Release

TheLakeCountry DockHounds defeated the Chicago Dogs 5-3 at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park Tuesday night. The loss drops Chicago to 3-1 this season.

In the series-opening game, pitch command was an issue.

The Dogs walked nine DockHounds while only striking out five.

Chicago starting pitcher Brooks Gosswein threw 3.1 innings and surrendered four earned runs, five hits and five walks. Gosswein allowed four runs in the first two innings before settling down in the rest of his start.

The Dogs' offense started out hot in the beginning of the game, as well. Leadoff hitter Johnni Turbo began the game with an infield single, before right fielder Narciso Crook hit his league-leading fourth home run to left field. Crook has dominated over his last two games by hitting four home runs and knocking in seven runners.

He also leads the American Association with eight RBI and is third with six runs scored and a .462 batting average.

In the third inning, Jacob Teter added onto his strong start by doubling home Teter. He has a .357 batting average, two RBI and has showcased stellar defense at first base.

Seven runs were scored through the first three innings, but each team's bullpen stepped up the rest of the game.

Dogs relief pitcher Cal Coughlin stepped into the game for Gosswein in the bottom of the fourth inning and dominated.

With two runners in scoring position and one out, Coughlin retired the next two DockHounds to limit any damage. Coughlin finished the night with 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out four Lake Country hitters.

Three DockHound relief pitchers - Brody Rodning, Matt Mullenbach and Alexis Rivero - combined for Lake Country's final four innings and surrendered two hits and held Chicago scoreless.

Game 2 of the series will take place at 6:35 p.m. Wednesday at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park.
