Chicago dropped the first of six to the Railroaders on Tuesday night by a final of 9-8, despite avaliant effort by the offense, as well as a stelar outing from Bryce Schaum, who returned to the Dogs after his release from the Brewers organization.

Schaum and Spencer Boynton, the newest member of the Dogs, combined for four and a third innings of scoreless baseball, combining for three walks and five strikeouts. The issue with the pitching was that Brendan Roberts, who made the start for Chicago, Donny Tober, and Cade Herrmann combined for nine earned runs on nine walks and seven hits in just three and two thirds innings, the difference in the series opener. If even one of those pitchers tossed an additional scoreless inning, the Dogs would have come away with a win.

The offense was great, as Chicago swatted three home runs, and put up a rally in the ninth that almost got the team back in the game late. Chance Sisco, Jaxx Groshans, and Sam Biller all went deep, and combined for all eight RBI between the three bats. Biller also made a stelar catch in center field late in the game just prior to his home run, putting on a one-man show to keep his team in the game. Unfortunately, they came up just short, stranding Groshans on second base to end the night.
