Chicago Dogs News Release

Once again the Dogs' pitching let the team down late on Thursday night, as Cleburne walked off Chicago for the second straight night, winning it in the bottom of the ninth to take game three of six by a final of 5-4.

Steven Lacey looked good early, but struggled at the end of his start, giving up four earned runs in four innings, three of which came in the bottom of the fourth. For most of the rest of the way, the bullpen looked spectacular. Donny Tober twirled three scoreless, sitting down four. A scoreless inning from Cade Herrmann in the eighth inning followed, with the Dogs looking to put together their most complete bullpen performance of the season. Unfortunately, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Bryce Schaum gave up the game-winning hit to left field, and was hung with the loss.

The offense was relatively productive, but could have used a game similar to the first two in the series, as they stopped producing after just four runs on seven hits. Jonathan Soto got the start behind the plate and made his presence known with a two-run double in his first at bat in the top of the second. Giovanni DiGiacomo drove in a run in the fourth inning, and Tyreque Reed missed a home run by about three feet in the top of the seventh, but brought home a run on the sacrifice fly to tie the game. Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough.
