Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs fell in their first game following the All-Star break, losing 11-6 to Sioux City Wednesday at Haymarket Park. Lincoln falls to 38-31, 9-12 in the second half.
The Explorers jumped on the Saltdogs early, scoring four in the first against Lincoln starter Jake Marceaux (0-1). An error in the inning made three of the runs unearned, and Tim Alberts hit a two-run home run to cap the frame. Lincoln answered back quickly in the bottom of the first, getting a two-run double from Juan Camacho against X's starter Mikael Ryder.
Sioux City, however, would never let Lincoln get completely caught up. The Explorers added a pair of runs in the third inning, although an Argelis Nunez RBI single in the bottom of the third cut the deficit to 6-3. Sioux City then plated three more in the top of the fourth for a 9-3 lead. Albenis Machado hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth, his first of the season, to pull the 'Dogs back within five.
Lincoln's best chance to get back into the game came in the sixth, when they loaded the bases with nobody out. Machado drew an RBI walk to make it 9-5, and one out later, Gavin Dickey hit a sacrifice fly to cut Sioux City's lead to three, but the Saltdogs could not draw any closer. The Explorers added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth to set the final margin.
Camacho finished the evening 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Juan Richardson also went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Machado drove in a pair of runs on the night, giving him 32 RBI on the season. Nunez's RBI was his team-high 56th of 2010.
The two teams play game two of their four-game series Thursday night at 7:05pm. Right-hander Jim Paduch will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
