Chicago Dogs News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill. - Behind Luke Westphal, who struck out eight men in his return from the disabled list, the Chicago Dogs dominated the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 6-1, on Star Wars Night at Impact Field.

Every Dog recorded at least one hit, four registering multi-hit efforts, as the team totaled for 16 in the contest. With the win, Chicago claimed its fifth straight series victory and moved to two games back of the St. Paul Saints for the final playoff spot in the North Division.

Luke Westphal was spectacular in his first start since returning from the disabled list. The Clintonville, Wisconsin native struck out eight while surrendering just one earned run and three hits over four innings of work.

An RBI single by Reggie Abercrombie gave Winnipeg an early 1-0 lead with no outs in the top of the first, but Westphal battled back with three straight strikeouts to limit the damage.

The lead would be short-lived as Jordan Dean ripped a bases-loaded RBI single to tie the game at one in the bottom of the frame.

The Dogs extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth. With two men on base and one out, David Olmedo-Barrera skied a sacrifice fly to score Trey Vavra, giving Chicago the 2-1 lead. On the next at-bat, Edwin Arroyo lined a base hit up the middle to score Tony Rosselli and extend the lead to two.

Luke Wilkins (W, 2-1) entered in the top of the fifth and hurled three shutout frames, allowing just one hit and striking out three.

An run-scoring single by Mitchell Kranson and RBI double from Arroyo plated home two more runs in the fifth, extending the Dogs' lead to four.

Rich Mascheri secured the final four outs of the game, working a 1-2-3 ninth to cap off the victory.

The Dogs will embark to St. Paul for their final road series of the season. LHP D.J. Snelten (6-3, 3.40 ERA) is slated to start game one on Saturday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 PM.
