'Dogs Can't Finish off Sweep of Apollos

LINCOLN, Nebraska - Curt Smith went 3-for-5 with a double and the game-tying run scored in the 9th inning, but the 'Dogs allowed four runs in the 10th inning in a 9-5 loss to the Houston Apollos at Haymarket Park on Thursday night.

Smith scored on David Vidal's game-tying RBI single with two outs in the 9th, but the Apollos scored four runs on two hits and two errors in the 10th and snapped Lincoln's four-game winning streak.

Lincoln (37-33) took a three-run lead in the 2nd inning on two errors and Forrestt Allday's solo homer, while Houston (10-60) got two back on a solo homer and an RBI single in the 3rd.

Josh Altmann hit his 21st homer of the year to begin the bottom of the 3rd, but the Apollos got a run back on Hudson Bilodeau's sacrifice fly in the 5th and tied on game on Aaron Takacs's run-scoring fielder's choice in the 7th.

After the Apollos took the lead on a wild pitch in the 9th inning, Vidal singled in Smith to tie the game. Houston scored four times in the 10th - with Dom DeRenzo's two-run single the difference. Jared Gay scored on an error and Collins Robinson had his first hit and RBI as an Apollo to make it 9-5.

Altmann went 2-for-5 with a solo homer and has now reached in 32 consecutive games with a 10-game hitting streak, while David Vidal reached four times with two walks and two singles. Skyler Weber went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and Justin Byrd had two hits with a walk.

Kyle Kinman allowed three runs over six innings, while Jesse Stallings allowed one run over one inning in his Lincoln debut. Carson Lance went 1-2-3 in the 8th, and David Zoz allowed the go-ahead run in the 9th. Both Walter Borkovich and Tyler Anderson allowed two runs - only one earned - in the 10th.

The 'Dogs finished 4-2 on the six-game road trip and will now hit the road for a seven-game road trip beginning with three games against the Gary SouthShore RailCats on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m., and pregame coverage will begin at 6:40 p.m. on ESPN Lincoln 101.5 FM/1480 AM.
