Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Dofasco have teamed up for one of the most exciting partnerships in Hamilton history.
Fans across the country have heard and read about the new videoboard at Ivor Wynne Stadium. Now, that board has a new name.
In a multi-year deal, effective immediately, the new name for the videoboard is the Dofasco TigerVision videoboard. The board's dimensions, 67 feet by 20 feet, make it the largest outdoor board in the country.
"We are very pleased to support the Tiger Cats in this manner," said Don Pether, President and CEO of Dofasco Inc. "Both Dofasco and the Tiger-Cats have a long and proud heritage, are strong in the community and have grown into two of Hamilton's strongest brands. The partnership for Dofasco TigerVision is a wonderful fit for both organizations."
Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young couldn't be happier with the partnership, adding, "Dofasco is a community leader and one of North America's leading, most technologically advanced steel engineering operation. The Tiger-Cats are going to be North America's most entertaining and most technologically advanced sports franchise, so this is a partnership made in heaven for the city of Hamilton."
The videoboard will also be used for the Vanier Cup on November 27, as well as other selected events. It's designed to reflect the latest in technology and to have an exclusive Hamilton look. The Dofasco TigerVision board will not only have Dofasco's name on it, it will also have a metal arch over the top of the board, making it reminiscent of the Burlington Skyway bridge, another Hamilton landmark.
The videoboard, produced by Daktronics Canada, has a resolution of 256 pixels high by 880 pixels wide. Each pixel is comprised of a red, green and blue LED, which illuminates in different colour combinations, offering vivid imagery, brighter pictures and greater viewing angles. It offers video images, animation, graphics, scores, statistics and other information. Add it up, and it's the sharpest video board in the country. And, the fan experience at Ivor Wynne Stadium will be enhanced greatly, by the new sound system, also installed by Daktronics.
"Daktronics is pleased to be working with the Tiger-Cats on this fantastic upgrade at Ivor Wynne Stadium," said Jim Morgan, president and CEO of Daktronics. "Our display systems provide fans with exciting video replays and larger than life images at sports facilities around the world, including eleven NFL facilities."
Recent super systems installed by Daktronics include the Bell Center in Montreal, Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Soldier Field in Chicago, Lambeau Field in Green Bay and Jacobs Field in Cleveland.
Hamilton fans can see Dofasco TigerVision for themselves at the opening pre-season game on May 30, when they host the Toronto Argonauts.
