Dillas use six-run fourth to beat WhiteWings, 13-7

Amarillo - The Amarillo Dillas scored six runs (one earned) in the fourth inning en route to a 13-7 victory over the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings tonight at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.

Down 4-3, the Dillas (41-31) batted around to take the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning against Jose Cordero (1-1). Angel Reyes led off with a single and Justin Wenger reached on an error. One out later, Keanon Simon hit a two-run triple. Stantrel Smith followed with an RBI-groundout. After Carlos Figueroa singled and moved to second on a bobbled ball into centerfield, Terrance McClain hit an RBI-single and Trent Lockwood hit his 14th home run of the season to make it 9-5.

Cordero bounced back to strikeout 11 in six innings, while allowing nine runs (four earned) on ten hits and two walks.

Juan Jimenez took over in the bottom of the seventh. Lockwood and Andrew Wong hit leadoff doubles for one run. Wong moved to third and scored on back-to-back wild pitches to make it 11-5.

The Dillas added two runs in the top of the eighth against Mark Ramos. Figueroa led off with an infield-single and McClain doubled. After Lockwood was intentionally walked to load the bases, Wong hit into an RBI-fielder's choice on which an error was committed. One out later, Wenger hit an RBI-groundout to make it 13-5.

In the top of the ninth against Coby Mavroulis, the WhiteWings (35-38) got two runs back. Juan Cabrera led off with a double and Jose Torres walked. One out later, Agustin Septimo and Joaquin Rodriguez hit RBI- singles to complete the scoring.

The WhiteWings got on the board against Ralph Roberts (8-3) right away. Septimo drew a leadoff eight-pitch walk and stole second. Rico Santana hit a one-out grounder wide of first that Trent Lockwood threw away, allowing Septimo to score to make it 1-0.

The Dillas responded against Cordero in the bottom of the first. Simon led off with a double. Smith singled and Figueroa hit his second home run of the season to make it 3-1.

The WhiteWings took the lead back in the top of the third. Septimo led off with a single and stole second, allowing him to score on a single by Rodriguez. One out later, Brian Nichols hit his 11th home run of the season, a shot that cleared the wall a few feet to the left of the 410 foot sign in left-center, to make it 4-3.

Cabrera led off the top of the fourth inning with his second home run of the season to make it 5-3.

The WhiteWings and Dillas play game two of this four-game series tomorrow night at 7:05 as the Famous Chicken visits the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa. Right-hander Juan Peralta (2-3) is expected to face right-hander Taylor Allen (4-3).
