
Dillas one game away from playoffs with 13-7 win

AMARILLO, TX - Carlos Figueroa and Trent Lockwood both provided homeruns for the Amarillo Dillas as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings 13-7 on Monday night in front of 1,610 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
With the win, the Dillas can clinch a playoff spot tomorrow with a win. Coupled with a 6-3 San Angelo loss to Edinburg, Amarillo climbs within 3.5 games of first place.
Dillas starter Ralph Roberts (8-3) went seven innings, gave up four earned runs and struck out nine batters in the win. Whitewings starter Jose Cordero (1-1) got the loss as he went six innings, gave up nine runs and struck out 11.
The Whitewings scored in the first on an error, but the Dillas responded in the bottom half as Keanon Simon doubled, Stantrel Smith singled to put runners on the corners for Figueroa's second homer of the season for a 3-1 Amarillo lead.
Rio Grande Valley retook the lead in the third as Joaquin Rodriguez drove home a run and Brian Nichols hit a two-run homerun for a 4-3 Whitewings lead.
The Dillas responded in the fourth as Simon hit an RBI triple to score Angel Reyes and Justin Wenger to tie the game. Smith grounded out to score Simon which gave the Dillas the lead and following a McClain RBI, Lockwood hit his 14th homerun to score McClain for a 9-5 lead.
Amarillo added a pair more in the seventh as Andrew Wong doubled home Lockwood and came across later in the inning on a wild pitch for a six-run advantage. The Dillas put two more on the board in the eighth on an error and a Wenger RBI groundout for a 13-5 lead.
Coby Mavroulis came in for the eighth and ninth, allowed two ninth inning runs, but finished off the Whitewings to preserve the 13-7 Amarillo victory.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 41-31, while the Whitewings fall to 35-38. Tuesday, Amarillo will host Rio Grande Valley for the second game of a four-game series, featuring The Famous Chicken, at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
