San Angelo Colts News Release

The first place San Angelo Colts have clinched a United League Baseball playoff slot, while the Edinburg Roadrunners and the Amarillo Dillas, with eight games left to play on Monday, appeared to be two others who will make the post-season games. At that point on Monday, the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings were leading the Coastal Bend Thunder for the fourth spot, but because of a tougher closing schedule that could change. The top four clubs make the playoffs, which begin on Sept. 1. The Colts led the league with a 45-27 record, while the Roadrunners were six games behind at 41-31. The Dillas were a half game behind at 40-31.

The Laredo Broncos are out of the picture at 22-50. The WhiteWings have a 35-37 record, while Coastal Bend is 32-39. However, the Wings had four games with Amarillo in the Panhandle, followed by their last four games at San Angelo, while the Thunder have two four-game sets with the Broncos. But, the Broncos could be the spoilers. They have two heavy hitters in Argelis Nunez (.358) and Luis Ugueto (.328).

The Colts have cooled down considerably having won five of their last 10 games and are now second in team hitting at .285. The Roadrunners and the Dillas both have won six of their last 10, while the WhiteWings have won seven. The Thunder have won five, while the Broncos have one only one of the last 10. The Dillas are first in team batting, at .288, wholowed by the WhiteWings, .279, Roadrunners, .273, Coastal Bend, .271, and the Broncos, .269. SanAngelo's Bryan Frichter still leads the league in hitting percentage, but has dropped down to .387. He has dropped to third in stolen bases with 29.
