Amarillo Dillas News Release

AMARILLO, TX - For many education districts in the Texas Panhandle today officially marks the beginning to the school year, which also means that colder weather and the football are just around the corner. But before the focus can turn to high school pigskin and winter attire, the Amarillo Dillas find themselves right in the middle of a heated pennant race in an effort to earn a second-consecutive United League championship.

The final eight-game home stand of the year got off to a great start with the Amarillo taking three out of four games from the league leading San Angelo Colts. The Dillas welcome the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings to round-out the regular season at home. Not only is this a big week in terms of trying to position themselves in the standings but it's an even bigger week with the arrival of "The Famous Chicken", tomorrow night.

With "The Famous Chicken" visiting his fourth all-time favorite city to visit, there will be plenty of families at the ballpark tomorrow night and that means there will be a lot of happy kids but it also means that they will be out late on a school night. With that in mind, the Dillas don't want to see any kids miss out on the zany, crazy and wild antics of the "Hall of Fame" performer. So they will be providing written excuses for every kid who attends the game, explaining that they were late arriving to school on Wednesday morning, because they were up late the night before watching an American icon.

"We certainly understand and promote the importance of getting a quality education learning about math, geography, science, history and so-on", Dillas General Manager Mark Lee said. "I'm not saying that The Famous Chicken is more important than Christopher Columbus but he is not far behind", added Lee. "I personally will write every kid who attends the game tomorrow night an excuse for being tardy to school on Wednesday morning because we truly believe it's equally important that kids should not be deprived of laughing and having a good time".

"The Famous Chicken" presented by Suddenlink, will take over the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa tomorrow night before what is expected to be a sell-out crowd, for a fourth-consecutive year. After losing three out of four to the San Angelo Colts, on their most recent road trip, the Dillas returned the favor by taking three out of four to begin the last regular-season home stand that started last Thursday, from the very same Colts. Amarillo welcomes the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings tonight for game-one of the four-game series with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm. Fans will receive free admission tonight courtesy of Street Toyota.

The Amarillo Dillas Baseball Club is a charter member of United League Baseball, a Professional Independent League, with six teams playing in Texas. ULB teams are located in Amarillo, Coastal Bend, Edinburg, Harlingen, Laredo, and San Angelo.
