Dillas only get six hits in 11-1 loss

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Dillas looked flat against the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings on Thursday night, as they were unable to sweep the Whitewings after an 11-1 loss in front of 3,513 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Justin Phillips (1-4) got the loss, going seven innings and allowed six runs, four of them earned. Whitewings starter Reymond Cruz (7-6) went seven innings as well, but allowed only the first inning unearned run in the effort.
The Amarillo Dillas took a first inning lead as Keanon Simon reached on an error, went to second on a groundout, stole third and scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead.
After the first, the Dillas offense fell flat while the Whitewings kept going strong. Rio Grande Valley scored three runs in the third, two unearned to take a 3-1 lead.
The Whitewings added two in the sixth off three hits and one more in the seventh on a Welinson Baez sacrifice fly RBI. In the ninth, Rio Grande Valley added more in the ninth with five runs off three hits, including a bases clearing triple by pinch-hitting pitcher Mark Ramos for an 11-1 advantage.
Amarillo came up in the ninth but couldn't put any runs on the board for the ten-run loss to the Whitewings.
With the win, the Dillas improve to 43-32, while the Whitewings fall to 36-40. Friday, Amarillo will travel to Edinburg to play the Roadrunners for the opening game of a four-game series at 7:05pm with Dillas Pre-Game set to begin at 6:55pm on AudioSportsOnline.net. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
