Roadrunners Split Series With Colts

EDINBURG, TEXAS ---- The Edinburg Roadrunners split the four-game series with the San Angelo Colts after a 5-3 loss Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Colts (47-29) got the scoring started in the top of the first with an RBI single by Rich Paz that drove in Ronnie Gaines from third giving San Angelo the early 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners (43-23) responded with back-to back singles by Vincent Blue and Sergio Guerrero in the bottom of the first inning. Hector Garanzuay then moved the runners up an extra base with a sacrifice bunt and Hunter Owen followed with a sacrifice fly to left center field that allowed Blue to score tying things at one.
San Angelo regained the lead in the top of the third inning after Jason Landreth hit an RBI single to center field that allowing Paz to score from second making it a 2-1 game.
In the top of the sixth inning San Angelo scored two runs on an error in right field that allowed Selwyn Langaige and John Anderson to score extending the Colts lead 4-1.
Edinburg scored another run off of Colts starter Brian Henschel (11-3) in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from Bryon Smith that drove in Carlos Hereaud from third cutting San Angelo's lead to 4-2.
In the bottom of the seventh Owen made it a one run game with an RBI infield single that allowing Blue to score making it a 4-3 game.
San Angelo scored an insurance run in the top of the eighth on an RBI fielder's choice by Gaines that allowed Anderson to score making it 5-3 in favor of the Colts.
Jameson Maj pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save of the season giving the Colts the 5-3 victory.
The Roadrunners start a four-game series with the Amarillo Dillas starting Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Tim Haines (9-4) is expected to face Richard Jessup with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
