Amarillo Dillas News Release
AMARILLO, TX - With just five games left in the 2009 United League regular-season play the Dillas look to sweep the four-game series from the WhiteWings of the Rio Grande Valley and continue their march toward a second consecutive championship title. But before there can be any celebratory thoughts they must first focus on winning tonight's game then travel fourteen hours to South Texas to battle the Edinburg Roadrunners, in effort to jockey for position in the standings heading into the season's final four-games.
With San Angelo coming back-to-the-field, so to speak, there is little doubt that the upcoming four-game series against Edinburg will determine who controls the center of the court in terms of momentum, leading into post- season play. Edinburg has been the hottest team in the league of late with their recent twelve-game winning streak the catapulted them from fourth place to second place in a span of about 10 days.
With a victory tonight, the Dillas will have won seven out of their last eight games including three out of four from league leading San Angelo. With both Amarillo and Edinburg peaking at the right time it doesn't seem as certain now, as it did three weeks ago, that San Angelo is the favorite to win the United League title.
"At this point we control our own destiny", Dillas Field Manager Brady Bogart said. "The way Edinburg has been playing of late and their winning streak has been very impressive but we (Dillas) can't worry about what the other teams are doing", Bogart added. "Baseball is a game of effort and preparation, if we continue to focus on those two things the winning part will take care of itself".
The Dillas officially wrap up their 2009 home game schedule tonight with the rubber-match of the series against the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. Tonight is last Budweiser Thirsty Thursday of the regular-season when fans 21 and over can enjoy 2-12 ounce adult beverages for just $3 and fans of all ages can grab a small soft drink of 16 ounces for just $1.
