Cruz Leads WhiteWings Past Dillas

Amarillo - Reymond Cruz (7-6) allowed just an unearned run in seven innings while striking out eight to lead the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings past the Amarillo Dillas 11-1 tonight at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
The Dillas (43-32) struck against Cruz right away. Keanon Simon led off with by hitting a ball back to the mound that Cruz bobbled, allowing Simon to reach. He moved to second on a groundout, stole third and scored on a groundout by Carlos Figueroa to make it 1-0.
The WhiteWings (36-40) responded against Justin Phillips (1-4) in the top of the third. Sandy DeLeon started the inning by reaching on an error. Casey Allen reached on a bunt-single. The ball was thrown away by Phillips, allowing DeLeon to score and Allen to go to second. Agustin Septimo followed with a single to move Allen to third. Joaquin Rodriguez hit an RBI-single, and after Juan Melo grounded into a double play, Brian Nichols hit an RBI-triple to make it 3-1.
With one out in the top of the sixth, Nichols singled and Welinson Baez hit an RBI-double. After Rico Santana walked and a groundout advanced the runners, DeLeon hit an RBI-infield-single to make it 5-1.
Septimo led off the seventh with a walk and Rodriguez singled. After a groundout advanced the runners and Nichols was intentionally walked to load the bases, Baez hit a sacrifice fly to make it 6-1.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Rodriguez drew a nine-pitch walk from Matt Smith. Melo followed with an RBI-triple. Nichols walked and stole second. One out later, Santana walked. Mark Ramos followed with a bases-clearing triple and Sandy DeLeon hit an RBI-single to make it 11-1.
The WhiteWings travel to San Angelo for game one of a four-game series with the Colts tomorrow night at 7:05 at Foster Field. Right-hander David Cross (2-0) is expected to face left-hander Jacob Ramos (3-1).
