Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Bats blew an early lead, then battled back and won on a walk off home run by center fielder Chris Dickerson. A crowd of 11,586 at Louisville Slugger Field watched as Louisville avoided being swept by Charlotte.

Jeff Keppinger led off the bottom of the first with a double down the right field line and scored on Anderson Machado's triple. Machado and Aaron Herr later scored on Joey Votto's double to right field. Votto went 2-for-4 with a walk and has now reached base in 33 consecutive games. Keppinger extended his on base streak to 18, and has reached base in 32 of 33 games with Louisville this year.

Charlotte's Tomas Perez was 2-for-4 on the night with two runs scored and a RBI. His single scoring Ryan Sweeney in the second opened the scoring for the Knights. With the game tied at five in the top of the seventh, Young hit a 418 foot home run to center field.

In the bottom of the ninth, Dickerson stepped to the plate with one out and runners on first and second. He hit a soaring shot to right field that cleared the fence and sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision. Louisville's Steve Kelly lasted just three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on eight hits. Charlotte starter Vladimir Nunez didn't fare much better, going five innings and allowing four runs, four hits and four walks. Ricky Stone (4-3, 3.73) picked up the win in relief, while David Aardsma (1-1, 4.10) took the loss.

Tomorrow the Bats will look to win their second straight as they start the second four game series of this eight game home stand. LHP Mike Gosling (5-2, 3.23) is scheduled to start for Louisville against Rochester's LHP Brian Duensing (2-0, 2.84). Game time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
