The Green Bay Gamblers are proud to announce that Dick Marbes will serve as the team's honorary captain for their Military Night on Saturday (11/14). Start time between the Gamblers and Bloomington Thunder is 7:05 PM at the Resch Center.

Marbes joined the Air Force in 1955 at the age of 17. Marbes was stationed in Germany where he was injured in a flightline accident. The injury resulted in bone cancer and Marbes eventually would lose his leg.

The Disabled American Veterans organization helped him put his life back together. For that reason, years later, he decided to join the Disabled American Veterans to help other disabled veterans.

A resident of Green Bay, Marbes volunteered nearly 17,000 hours over 30 years as an active member of DAV Chapter 3 in Green Bay. He also served as Wisconsin State Adjutant for over ten years. In 1993-1994, Dick was elected and served as the National Commander of the DAV and spearheaded an effort to change some pre-existing policies, helping to reestablish the DAV as one on the strongest and most influential Veterans groups.

For his efforts, Dick was recognized as the DAV's National Amputee of the Year.

"Dick has dedicated his time and energy to serving veterans and for that we are indebted to him for his efforts," says Gamblers head coach Pat Mikesch. "He is an inspiration to us all and we are proud to have him as a member of our team."
