USHL Announces Change in Rookie Designation
Published on November 11, 2015 under United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release
The United States Hockey League announced today a change in rookie designation for USHL players. Discussion began earlier this offseason and involved the consultation of USHL General Managers. The new rookie designation, designed to reward first year or future NHL Draft-eligible players, will be implemented immediately:
A USHL rookie will be defined as such:
A player entering their first year of NHL Draft-eligibility, or younger (2015-16 season: players born after September 15, 1997)
-AND-
Who has played fewer than 10 USHL games in any single prior season
Under the previous definition of a USHL rookie, players 19 and younger were eligible to be designated as a rookie and would lose rookie designation once they had played 10 games of junior hockey at any level. HockeyTech has partnered with the USHL to help designate rookie status amongst scoring statistics.
