PEARL, MS -- The Jackson Generals held the Mississippi Braves to just four hits en route to a 2-1 victory Monday night at Trustmark Park. The series continues Tuesday at 7:00 PM.

Mississippi (5-6, 38-41) plated one run on four hits. Jackson (5-6, 34-45) scored two runs on 10 hits. Edwin Diaz (3-6) held the Braves to just one hit and a walk while striking out seven in six innings of work to pick up the win.

Kyle Hunter and Matt Anderson each worked a scoreless inning in relief to hold the Braves at bay before giving way to Tony Zych (S, 4) who recorded the final three outs and notched the save.

Greg Ross (2-8) gave up two earned runs on 10 hits and two walks. He struck out four in seven innings of work and suffered the loss. Mark LAmm worked two hitless innings in relief.

Sean Godfrey led off the bottom of the first with a single to right field, but the M-Braves did not get another hit until the seventh-a solo homer.

The two teams were scoreless through five frames. In the sixth, Jordy Lara led off with a ground-rule double to left-center. He then came around to score on a Dan Paolini double to left field, putting Jackson out front 1-0. Tyler Marlette and Tyler Bortnick followed with base hits to load the bases before Ian Miller's sacrifice fly made it a 2-0 game.

Kevin Ahrens blasted a solo home run to left-center in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the Generals lead to 2-1. It was his third long ball of the season.

Mississippi put two runners on in the bottom of the ninth but a failed sacrifice and an inning-ending double play ended the threat and the game.

The M-Braves send righty Victor Mateo (4-5, 2.71) to the hill in game four of this five-game series against the Generals. He'll counter Jackson right-hander Moises Hernandez (3-3, 4.06). First pitch is slated for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
