July 6, 2015 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announces the Southern League-BC Relief Pitcher of the Month for June. Righthander P.J. Francescon of the Tennessee Smokies (Chicago Cubs) was selected for the honors after converting each of his four save opportunities during the month.

Over eight innings in eight games, the 2014 and 2015 Southern League All-Star produced a perfect 0.00 ERA with seven strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.13. Francescon held opposing hitters to a meager .185 batting average. On the year, the righty has allowed just two earned runs in 29.2 total innings of work. Selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 40th round of the 2011 draft out of Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee, Francescon began his professional career as a starting pitcher. Since making the move to the bullpen with the Smokies in 2013, the active Southern League saves leader has lowered his ERA each season. In 374.2 career innings, Francescon has compiled a 42-40 record with a 3.39 ERA.
