Diablos trounce Pensacola 12-5

Jorge Alvarez got his 2,000th professional base hit as the El Paso Diablos destroyed the Pensacola Pelicans 12-5 in the series finale from Cohen Stadium.

El Paso opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first. Jorge Alvarez picked up a two-out single to start the rally. The single was Alvarez's 2,000th professional hit. Alvarez scored on a Matt Kent single giving El Paso a 1-0 advantage.

The Diablos stretched the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second. Jorge Alvarez had a bases clearing double, picking up three RBI's in the process.

El Paso made it a 10-0 game in the bottom of the fourth. The Diablos pounded out seven hits in the frame.

The Pelicans punched together two runs in the sixth and the seventh. The Pelicans combined for six hits over those two frames.

The Diablos pieced together one run in the sixth and the eighth. Albenis Machado had an RBI single and Jorge Alvarez had his fifth RBI of the contest in the eighth.

Josh Neitz (8-4) threw five scoreless innings allowing two hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Todd Androsko (5-6) tossed three and a third allowing eight earned runs off 11 hits with four walks and no strikeouts.

Evan Conley finished the ball game 5-5 with three runs scored.

Jorge Alvarez went 4-6 with five RBI's and two runs scored. Alvarez has set the single season American Association record with 83 RBI's in a season.

The Diablos will open up a three game set series against the Shreveport Sports on Monday night at 7:05 PM. Aaron Trolia will get the start for the Diablos. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
