The Sioux City Explorers edged Sioux Falls at home and improved to 21-15 in the second half. With the win and a loss by St. Paul there is now a tie for first place in the North Division. The Explorers got off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and scored again in the fifth after the Canaries had cut the lead to one. From that point, the bullpen took over for Sioux City and did not allow a run in 3 1/3 innings. Explorers starter Alexander Francisco notched his ninth win of the season. He allowed three runs on four hits, two of which were home runs, and struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings. Sioux City closer Matt Wilkinson picked up his 12th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Fort Worth 5, St. Paul 1

The Fort Worth Cats got some great pitching to lead them to their 23rd win in the second half. The combination of starter Ryan Trytten and Nicholas Martin combined to allow just one run on eight hits in the game. Four Cats hitters recorded multi-hit games, including C Kelley Gulledge who was 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI. St. Paul RF Derrick White was a perfect 4-for-4 to lead the way in the losing effort. Fort Worth maintained a 3 ½ game lead over the El Paso Diablos in the South Division standings with the win. Their 23 wins are most in the American Association since the break.

El Paso 12, Pensacola 5

The El Paso Diablos got plenty of offense in support of starting pitcher Josh Neitz to roll to an easy win. The Diablos plated 12 runs on 21 hits to back Neitz, who allowed just two hits and a walk in five shutout innings. Surprisingly, of the 21 Diablo hits, none were home runs, although three players recorded at least four hits. El Paso DH Jorge Alvarez led all hitters, going 4-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBI. Diablos 2B Evan Conley was a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs scored.

Shreveport 4, Coastal Bend 1

The Shreveport Sports answered a Coastal Bend run in the top half of the first inning with two of their own in the bottom half of the frame and never looked back as they cruised to a 4-1 win from there. Sports starting pitcher Mal Winters went seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out five to improve to 6-3 on the year. Shreveport reliver Aaron Cunningham notched his third save of the year by throwing two shutout innings. Sports DH Chad Gambill led the way at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.

Lincoln 5, St. Joe 3 (Game 1 - Completion of a suspended game from August 11th)

The Lincoln Saltdogs came away with a victory in the completion of yesterday's suspended game behind the pitching of starter Kyle Ruwe. Ruwe allowed one run on six hits in six innings of work to improve to 8-2 on the season. Lincoln DH Seth Pietsch led the way offensively going 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Saltdogs closer Matt Varner notched his 18th save of the season by tossing a perfect ninth. St. Joe LF Andy Wilson had a good game in the losing effort. He was 4-for-4.

St. Joe 5, Lincoln 3 (Game 2 - 7 innings)

The St. Joe Blacksnakes avenged the suspended game loss by turning the score around on the Saltdogs and winning 5-3 behind a strong outing from starting pitcher Dustin Bolton. Bolton allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits and struck out two in seven innings to notch his second win of the season. The duo of 1B Dustin Yount and SS Chad Sosebee combined to go 2-for-4 and knock in four of the Blacksnakes' five runs to lead the way offensively. Lincoln LF Pichi Balet was the only Saltdogs hitter to record more than one hit. He was 2-for-3.
